Young Lives Lost to Antidepressant Drugs

The dangers of antidepressants cannot be underestimated. Antidepressants – such as Prozac and Fluoxetine – can cause worsening depression, anxiety, panic attacks, hostility, aggression, psychosis, violence and suicidality. With this in mind, there was an article in a recent edition of the Metro newspaper where people were invited to share pictures of their psychiatric drug prescriptions, specifically antidepressants, in a brazen attempt to fight the perceived stigma that’s linked to the use of the drugs.

The following is a list of young people who didn’t share pictures of their prescription drugs. That’s because they took their own lives while on the prescription psychiatric drugs. Psychiatry it seems will go to any lengths to mitigate the dangers of their prescribing habits in order to keep the profits flowing.

• September 2010, 10-year-old Harry Hucknall hanged himself in his bedroom. He had been prescribed Prozac and Ritalin.

• March 2013, 14-year-old Jake McGill Lynch died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, 46 days after being prescribed Prozac.

• April 2013, 17-year-old Michaela Christoforou hanged herself in a specialist treatment centre for eating disorders in North London. She had been prescribed Fluoxetine.

• June 2013, 15-year-old George Werb died when he was struck by a train. He was initially prescribed Fluoxetine after which he became suicidal and withdrew from the drug. He was prescribed the drug again at a branch of the Priory.

• December 2013, 15-year-old Patrick Roberts hanged himself in a park near his Hertfordshire home. He had been on Prozac for about one month before his death.

• March 2014, 14-year-old Tom Boomer died when he fell from a multi-story car park. Eleven days before his death, Tom had been prescribed Prozac.

• 10 November 2014, 15-year-old Jade Kosanlavit ran in front of a train at Port Sunlight station on the Wirral. She was prescribed Fluoxetine, which she took until her death.

• March 2015, 18-year-old Ben Stollery was found hanged. Police found his body near Manchester Canoe club at Marple. A crisis team had put Ben on the antidepressant Fluoxetine.

• 9 April 2015 18-year-old George Cheese hanged himself from a tree close to his home in Woodley, Berkshire. He had been prescribed Fluoxetine by his GP.

• 30 May 2015, 18-year-old Isabella Finnegan hanged herself at Manchester Metropolitan University. She had been prescribed Fluoxetine.

• December 2015, 18-year-old Heather Blower hanged herself at her home in Manchester. Heather had been taking Fluoxetine.

• June 2016, 18-year-old Edward Dinsmore hanged himself. A report from Edward’s GP surgery said he was taking an antidepressant, Fluoxetine.

• December 2015, 15-year-old Pippa McManus stepped in front of a train at Gatley Station in Manchester. A Serious Case Review revealed she had been prescribed Fluoxetine, Promethazine and Olanzapine.

• 9 January 2017, 16-year-old Rachel Finke hanged herself in a park close to her school in Stoke Newington, London. She had been prescribed Fluoxetine, Mirtazapine and Sertraline.

• 8 April 2017, 16-year-old Karen Edgar hanged herself at her home in Cumbria. She had been prescribed Fluoxetine and Sertraline.

• 19 July 2017, 15-year-old Becky Romero hanged herself at her home in Bristol. She had been prescribed Fluoxetine.

• 9 August 2017, 15-year-old Brandon Singh Rayat hanged himself at his home in Humberside. He had been prescribed Fluoxetine.

• 2 May 2018, Rose Chambers was found in a wooded area in Shrewsbury. She had been prescribed Fluoxetine.
